NEW FRIENDS ON MY OLD TURF: MOMMY BLOGGERS VISIT KATIE AT CBS NEWS

Katie_shakes_hands What are the odds?  I spent what would have been my prime mommy-blogging years, before the Interweb was anyone's darling, working at CBS News at 524 West 57th St.  Now, some of my sweet, funny mommy blogging friends went through the same door I used every day for 7 years to meet with Katie Couric.  Here's what happened:

Pretty cool, huh?  My 9 years at TODAY never crossed with Katie and clearly my CBS years were the "Place to Be" years, well before hers but it sure was fun to see the girlfriends sashay on in and charm her to pieces.  But then, that's what they do.

Yeah but I don't think news is ever going to return to the golden days. As for Katie, there will be books written about her tenure there - for sure.

Amazing how some things are cyclical, huh.

Actually Holly it WAS fun when I was there - fierce but fair and something to be very proud of. I think the spirit of creativity is still there to some degree, but things have changed a lot; the golden CBS News days are long-gone. The thing is, news people are adrenaline junkies so we're always happy when we're on deadline... it's just that these days there often aren't enough resources -- and there's such emphasis on ratings -- so it's tough to do the job the way you want to. It's why I happily moved over to the Interweb.
I wrote a post about it after going to the book party for one of the stalwarts of that era, Roger Mudd. It's linked in this post as "the place to be" if you're interested. Thanks for stopping by.

It was such a good time, but I'm so jealous that you actually worked there... I commented on more than one occasion that it looked like the best place to work. Everyone was smiling and happy - and people were sitting on yoga balls instead of chairs (okay, just one guy). People working together in the spirit of creativity? I couldn't have imagined such a thing in my days of cubicle life in Dallas tech world!!

How fun!!

xoxo
